The prosecutors in Santa Fe, New Mexico announced their intention to charge Alec Baldwin, 64, earlier this month. However, formally filing the charges were delayed reportedly due to the amount of paperwork to be filled out explaining the controversial decision.

The papers, which were filed today, reportedly contain a 10-page-long probable cause affidavit.

The actor is expected to fight the charges but if convicted could be facing up to five years in prison.

The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has also been formally charged in connection with the shooting.

In October 2021, the cast and crew of Rust were setting up for a scene at a ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe.

Alec was pointing a pistol at Halyna, a Ukrainian cinematographer who was just 42 at the time, when the gun went off.

Halyna died as a result of the shot and filmmaker Joel Souza was also injured in the ordeal.
