Alex Jones, 43, has revealed in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk that Matt Baker’s exit from The One Show led to “everything changing” on the BBC favourite. From the production of the magazine show, to co-presenting with new hosts each week, the presenter explained why this has been her “favourite year of the job”.
Obviously everything changed

Alex and Matt, 43, had presented The One Show for almost a decade together before he left the green sofa for good in March last year.
The star has now said everything changed after her co-host’s departure, while also discussing AXA Health’s Feelgood Health campaign.
The Welsh presenter revealed: “Obviously everything changed, not just co-presenters but the whole structure changed and we had to adapt as the rules were being set out.”
Alex spoke about how the coronavirus pandemic affected the filming of the show.
She said: “We had to adapt how the studio was being set out, how we interviewed guests.
“We went from 70 people in the studio to four – [it was] a big change.”
However, the former Tumble presenter admitted that despite the challenges, the last year since Matt’s departure had been her favourite on The One Show.
She revealed: “Looking back, it’s been my favourite year of the job, which seems like an odd thing to say, but it really pulls everybody together.
“We’ve been closer as a team and stronger, and it gave the show a bit of an edge as we had to change it around and then obviously we’ve had co-presenters and that’s been quite nice.”
Alex disclosed that having a revolving set of colleagues to share the green sofa with has kept the show fresh during a difficult year.
She said: “Not much happens in lockdown it’s always the same, so having all these different people in has kept it quite fresh and now we’ve got regular faces that interchange and we’ve all become really good friends.”
The One Show veteran revealed that she enjoyed the challenges that hosting with different presenters brings.
“It’s been a year where I’ve had to adapt my style a bit, as you have to adapt to who you’re presenting with.”
Alex also addressed finding a replacement for the Countryfile star, but said it’s not likely to be any time soon.
“At the beginning after Matt left we sort of thought naturally we need to replace Matt, but as time has kind of gone on we sort of enjoy this system.

“It means that – because a lot of those people have different commitments – they can dip in and out.
“It’s really nice to see them when they come and do a week or do a few days here and there”
Alex recalled how Matt’s departure in March 2020 was due to him wanting “a different pace of life”.
She said: “[The One Show] wasn’t right for him at that stage in his life. We are quite different people in many ways, Matt didn’t really want it to come into London on a daily basis, he’s not a city person.
“He wanted to be out in the country and I think he wanted a different pace of life, which is fine.”
Even though the duo no longer present alongside one another, Alex revealed that she still sees Matt every week – when her and her family watch him on Countryfile.
“We watch him on Countryfile every night, I’m literally there, we’re there, Countryfile, Antiques Roadshow, cheese on toast, night night.”
