Alex Trebek’s widow, Jean Trebek, is sitting down to talk for the first time since her husband’s death.
In an exclusive interview with Savannah Guthrie, airing Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Telemundo, Trebek shares how she is doing after the death of the longtime “Jeopardy!” host, who died in November after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
“I think right now, talking with you, I’m good. You know? I’m good. I absolutely have moments of waves of grief that just come over me, I miss him a lot,” Trebek says.
Her interview comes part of NBC News’ “Inspiring America: The 2021 Inspiration List.” In a preview clip of the show, released Wednesday, Trebek says her husband was inspired by his fans during his public battle with cancer.
“I think one of the beautiful things, the blessings that came, if you can call it a blessing, was that he got to really see the outpouring of love and admiration that he gave to the world,” Trebek says. “And I know that that was in and of itself a huge inspiration for Alex.”

Alex Trebek revealed his diagnosis via the “Jeopardy!” YouTube channel in 2019 saying, “I wanted to be the one to pass along this information.”
“Just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer,” he said. “Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working.”
After the announcement, fans and contestants of the show supported the host all the way until his battle with the fatal disease was over. One contestant, Dhruv Gaur put his heart on his screen, writing “We (heart) you Alex!” instead of a Final Jeopardy answer during a November 2019 episode.
Jean Trebek talks about that moment in the interview.
“When that contestant wrote that, you know, you could see him, like, ‘Oh, don’t make me cry here but I love it.’ And I think that meant the world to him,” she says.
“He got to really see the outpouring of love.”

“Jeopardy!” is still on the hunt to find a host to fill the shoes of Alex Trebek. Guest hosts like Aaron Rodgers, Ken Jennings and Katie Couric have filled in to keep the show going. The show announced on April 21 that the last group of guest hosts would include “Good Morning America” anchors George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts; author and CNBC host David Faber and “Reading Rainbow” front man LeVar Burton.
