Alison Hammond, 48, broke her silence via Instagram after reports claimed she had told pals of handing over thousands of pounds and a car to a former friend, who had threatened to unveil false stories about her private life. West Midlands Police also confirmed it had arrested a 36-year-old man from Warwickshire on suspicion of blackmail against a woman in her 40s.
The suspect has since been bailed following his arrest, the police told MailOnline.
He was questioned by police and released on conditional bail on Sunday.
The This Morning host took to Instagram last night to share she had been treated to a “girls night” alongside her co-star Holly Willoughby, 42, and her pals Nicole Appleton, 48, and Spice Girl Emma Bunton, 47.
Alison captioned the post in view of her 1.2 million followers: “Girl therapy night ! Needed that.”
The ITV star could be seen smiling for a selfie with the group in a hallway, while Emma posed behind her in a stylish hat.
Holly put on a casual display in a printed jumper and boyfriend jeans with a frayed hem.
Holly’s sister took to the comments section of Alison’s post with a supportive message, which read: “Ahhhhhhh. Always a healer. You’ve got this. Thanks for the fun.”
Emma added: “We [love heart emoji] ya!”
Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha commented: “You are one of a kind Alison !! Big hugs and love . Xxx.”
After the suspect was bailed, West Midlands Police said in a statement to Express.co.uk: “We are investigating an allegation of blackmail of a woman in her 40s.
“We take reports of this kind very seriously and our enquiries are progressing swiftly.”
Alison has reportedly been distraught after the man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, threatened to “ruin” her career.
