Strictly: Janette Manrara teases presenting role for Aljaz Skorjanec
Former star of Strictly Come Dancing, Aljaz Skorjanec, has revealed that he was having a “midlife crisis” when he quit the hit BBC show last year, admitting he’s not sure what to do next.
Aljaz Skorjanec had been a favourite in Strictly Come Dancing for nine seasons, but decided to leave the BBC show behind and say goodbye to the competition last year.
The 33-year-old, who is expecting his first baby with fellow star, wife Janette Manrara, 39, told his fans at the time that he needed to leave to “focus on other opportunities”.
But speaking at the Strictly Come Dancing weekend held at Thoresby Hall, he has now opened up on the real reason, saying he was having a “midlife crisis”.
He told audience members, according to Daily Star: “I found I fell in love with dancing again when I did theatre, people came to see me, and I found an appreciation for someone clapping after I finished dancing. I fell in love with that concept.
“I did theatre for three years, and then Strictly came around, and I did that for nine years.”
It seems that Aljaz’s decision wasn’t just about quitting the show but instead taking a break from dancing completely.

He told those who attended the star-studded event: “A year and a half ago, I hit an early midlife crisis, and now I don’t know what I want to do in my life. I love talking now, so I love doing Q&As, birthdays, calls – don’t make me dance, but I can talk for ages.”
The Magic of Strictly Come Dancing is a weekend event hosted by the Warner Hotel group. It includes a variety of professional dancers from the hit BBC show, including Amy Dowden, Graziano Di Prima and Katya Jones.
As well as attending question and answer sessions by the dance professionals, attendees can also enjoy dance showcases, demonstrations and have the opportunity to be taught how to dance.
Although Aljaz won’t be hitting the dance floor each week, we could be seeing more of him on the Strictly scene.
Janette, who was also at the event, joked that her husband would make an ideal co-host for the spin-off It Takes Two now that Rylan Clark has announced he’s leaving the show.
Janette continued: “We do need a new co-host, don’t you think? I’m not being biased; he’s my husband, but if I’m gonna have a TV husband who is better than my actual husband?”
Rylan has hosted It Takes Two since 2019 when he joined Zoe Ball, until she left for BBC Radio 2 and was replaced by professional dancer Janette.
