Anita features in ITV drama The Long Call, the second episode of which airs tonight at 9pm. The four-part murder mystery series, based on Ann Cleves’ bestselling book, will play out over the course of the week. In the programme, Detective Inspector Matthew Venn, played by Fleabag’s Ben Aldridge, returns home to North Devon and is thrown straight into the horror of a murder case, after a man is stabbed to death on a beach.
Anita plays Grace Stephenson in the show, a member of the Barum Brethren, who is married to the manipulative church elder Dennis Stephenson.
The actor described Grace as a “sad, wretched woman whose life has dribbled away from her.”
Anita is best known for her role as Angie Watts in BBC soap opera EastEnders between 1985 and 1988.
At the height of her EastEnders success, Anita met Queen guitarist Brian and the pair struck up a romance.

However, on a 2015 episode of Loose Women, Brian revealed that many in his entourage thought the relationship “wouldn’t last”, including Queen’s enigmatic front man Freddie Mercury.
Brain said: “A lot of people, including Freddie [said it wouldn’t last].”
Brian then jokingly imitated his late band mate and said: “Darling, you’ll never last.”
He added: “I think he thought we were both too volatile.
“In fact my manager said to me ‘marry an actress? You must be kidding.’
“Well somehow we’re still here.”
The pair met in 1986 when Brian was still married to ex-wife Christine Mullen, and were together on and off until their marriage in November 2000.
When asked the secret to their long-lasting relationship Anita said: “I think things only work because you want them to.

“I want to be with him so that’s the whole reason we’re still together.”
Last year Brian, who is 74, shredded his buttock muscles while gardening, and upon receiving the injury, suffered a small heart attack.
An MRI scan later revealed the Queen guitarist had three blocked arteries that left him “very near death”.
This morning, Anita discussed her husband’s health woes with stand-in presenter Christine Lampard on ITV’s Lorraine.
Anita said: “It was sort of a litany of disasters really.
“When we first got the news that the studio was closing and the theatres were closing and Covid has stuck, you sort of think ‘Oh, a little respite from work, so make the most of it’.
“And then first of all, he got sciatica, then he had a heart attack, and then he had a haemorrhage.
“So he was really in a bad way.”
She added: “I sort of went into shock, I couldn’t believe it.
“I was kind of almost numbed by the fear that something awful was going to happen to him, but thank God he’s back on form doing his exercises, swimming regularly and music.”
Watch The Long Call tonight on ITV at 9pm.
