Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were treated to a serious dose of nostalgia on Friday morning as they sat down with one of the first ever Britain’s Got Talent contestants – 17 years after first meeting.
Appearing on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, the Geordie duo caught up with Connie Talbot, now 22, who had previously met the stars when she was just six years old!
The pint sized pop star first auditioned all the way back in 2007 when she managed to win over the hearts of the judges, including Simon Cowell himself, with her performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow.
Audiences were clearly impressed with the youngster too, as she only narrowly missed out on winning the show, as she came second behind Paul Potts.
Taking a trip down memory lane, Amanda – who was on the judging panel when Connie stepped on the famous stage as a child – kicked off the conversation, as Dec remarked: "Look at her little picture!”
"How are you doing Connie? Are you still performing?" Ant then chimed in as he asked the youngster about what she was up to now.
Connie replied: "I’m good, really really good. I am, I’m an independent artist now and doing new music, got an EP coming up in April.”
Delighted by the news, Amanda soon added: “That’s exciting!” before continuing: "She’s got an absolutely stunning voice and you still look like you looked."
All three stars soon burst out laughing as Connie then cheekily admitted: "I got my fringe done on Tuesday!”
Speaking about their time on the first ever series of the annual talent show, Amanda confessed: “First ever series where none of us knew what we were doing apart from Connie.”
Before Ant soon added: "I wasn’t sure the show was ever going to work and then Connie turned up and other people like Paul Potts and we went “god we’ve got a show here!” Britain has Got Talent! At that point we all thought there was a question mark, Britain’s Got Talent?”
"I tell you what Connie, I’m thrilled you’re still singing!" Jamie quipped when speaking to the young star.
Having already experienced her first taste of fame at such a young age, the singer has continued to go from strength to strength in pursuit of her dreams ever since.
Birmingham-born Connie released her first album, named Over the Rainbow, six months after appearing on BGT in 2007. In total it sold a whopping 250,000 copies and the child star went on to release a Christmas album the following year.
Her appearance on Heart radio isn’t the first time Connie has opened up about her brush with stardom, as she previously also opened up about her experience on Loose Women.
Connie admitted on the ITV show that she hadn’t been "upset" when Paul beat her, especially since then-judge Piers Morgan had hailed her "the best six-year-old singer" he had ever seen.
She did however admit that seeing her performances now was an embarrassing experience as she told the panel: "I was like ‘oh, God, don’t show that’.
"When I hear that chipmunk voice … I sounded like a chipmunk.
"I think I was too little – I just wanted to go on the show and I just kept saying I want a good show for Simon, it was the first time.
"I wasn’t upset by it at all."
