Strictly: Steph McGovern reveals she wanted Oti to win
Steph McGovern, 38, had to quickly backtrack after she awkwardly snubbed Anton Du Beke, 54, this afternoon. The Channel 4 host apologised for her remark, which she issued while chatting to Anton and his former Strictly Come Dancing co-star Kelvin Fletcher, 37, on Steph’s Packed Lunch.
Anton seemed less than impressed with the former BBC Breakfast star when she suddenly declared that she wanted Oti Mabuse, 30, to win the Glitterball trophy on Strictly 2020 with her partner Bill Bailey, 56.
After gushing over his rival pro dancer in the competition, Steph said sorry to Anton for hinting that she wasn’t rooting for him and his dance partner Jacqui Smith at the time, despite him being a regular guest on her Channel 4 show.
Steph got onto the subject after Kelvin praised his former dance partner Oti, who he won Strictly with in 2019, for becoming a champion for the second time with comedian Bill.
He said: “I watched this year and it was great to see Oti being crowned champion.”

Steph then exclaimed: “Yes! I know! I obviously really wanted Oti to win.”
However, after realising her error in judgement with Anton sitting right next to her, Steph chimed: “Sorry Anton!”
Luckily for Steph, Anton took the accidental swipe in good humour, as he chuckled about the presenter’s blunder.
He then quipped with a frown on his face: “Do you know, sometimes you wonder why you came.
“I have to be honest with you!”
Anton has been part of Strictly’s team of professional dancers since the show began in 2004.
However, he is yet to win the show’s coveted Glitterball trophy.
The King of Ballroom didn’t even come close last year, as he and politician Jacqui sadly became the first couple to be eliminated from the BBC dance competition.

Fortunately for Anton he was still able to get involved in the programme following his early exit.
The star filled in for Motsi Mabuse on the Strictly judging panel after she was unable to judge on the show for two weeks, as an emergency trip to Germany meant she had to self-isolate upon her return to the UK.
Following Anton’s success as a judge, his co-star Neil Jones has admitted he is unsure whether he will become a permanent member of the panel for 2021, or if Bruno Tonioli will make his comeback instead.
When quizzed on whether Bruno could return after he was forced to step back from Strictly 2020 due to coronavirus travel restrictions in the US, Neil revealed: “I have no idea.
“Anton was incredible and Bruno is always hilarious. But again it all comes down to COVID.
“If we still have a similar situation next year you never know.
“They might turn around and say: ‘Anton, we’re going to make you the fourth judge.’”
Neil went on to explain: “Anton loved it but Anton also loves dancing and he loves being in the group dances with all of us.”
He continued to Entertainment Daily: “We all trust in the production staff because year after year they win awards, the numbers are going up, people love the show, so they know what they’re doing.
“So we stick to the dancing and we let them stick to the production side.”
