Strictly Come Dancing’s John Whaite has said sorry on Instagram after he posted a clip of himself playing the guitar while “disgustingly hungover”. The star, 32, left his fans open-mouthed when he revealed he can do more than bake and dance in a clip of himself performing The Power of Goodbye by Madonna, which he posted to social media today.

That was an unfortunate end!

In view of his 205,000 followers, John showcased his incredible singing abilities.

Sitting in a black top and matching pair of shorts, John concentrated as he played the American singer’s hit.

The Baker Off winner smiled as he made his way though the song, without giving anything away to show that he wasn’t feeling his best.

He captioned the clip: “The Power of Goodbye by Madonna.

“This has got to be one of Madonna’s very best songs ever.

“Don’t you think the Ray of Light era was one of her best?” he asked his fans.

But despite his impeccable performance, the star was left apologising after the hit took a turn.

Following the last line of the song, John struck the wrong chord, leaving the song ending on a sour note.

“Anyhow, did this when I was disgustingly hungover, so apologies for my failure to hit that Bm chord,” he added.

After finishing the song on the wrong chord, John said: “That was an unfortunate end!” before the clip cut out.

Taking to the comments, the star’s celebrity friends were quick to express their amazement at his singing abilities.

John’s Strictly co-star Karen Hauer commented with a row of heart emojis.

While his Bake Off colleague Ruby Bhogal penned: “Oh p*** off John – WHAT CANT YOU DO?!(sic)

“Holy hell you’re incredible,” she added.

Denise Van Outen also branded John’s rendition of the song “beautiful”.

Last Saturday’s Strictly performance left John and his dance partner Johannes Radebe in fourth place on the leaderboard.

The couple performed the Quickstep to Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival on the show’s Halloween week.

Today, John returned to Channel 4 show Steph’s Packed Lunch, which saw him sit down with presenter Steph McGovern to make a delicious Biscoff Banoffee Pie.

This week sees the duo perform a Rumba to Shape of My Heart by Sting.

Strictly Come dancing continues at 6.45pm on Saturday on BBC One.
