Aretha Franklin’s Granddaughter Auditions For ‘American Idol’

Aretha Franklin‘s granddaughter Grace Franklin auditioned for “American Idol” Season 20.

The 15-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, sang Roberta Flack‘s “Killing Me Softly” for the audition.

Judge Katy Perry wanted the teenage singer to sing another song.

Grace subsequently selected “Ain’t No Way,” one of the most iconic songs by the late great Queen of Soul.

Impressed by her performance, Katy voted “yes” to send Grace into the next round.

However, as the other two judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, voted “no,” Grace did not qualify for the second round of the music competition series.

Shocked by the majority decision, Katy stormed off the stage, saying, “She might be a little shy. I will lay down on the ground. I quit this show! I’m going to the bar. Something wrong with your ears!
You all are insane!”

“American Idol” Season 20 premiered on ABC last Sunday.
