Ariana DeBose Wins First Oscar For West Side Story & Makes History!

Ariana DeBose just made history by winning the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2022 Oscars held at Dolby Theatre on Sunday (March 27) in Hollywood.

The 31-year-old actress of course won for her work as Anita in West Side Story.

Ariana is the first and only openly queer woman of color to be nominated, and win!

Her and Rita Moreno have also become one of only a few pairs of actors to win an Oscar for playing the same role. Rita was the first Latina to win an Oscar for playing Anita in the 1961 film.

Ariana is pictured in the gallery posing on the red carpet with Rita and their director Steven Spielberg.

Also in attendance were West Side Story co-stars Maddie Ziegler and Paloma Garcia-Lee. The musical is also up for Best Picture!

FYI: Ariana is wearing Valentino Haute Couture. Maddie is wearing Giambattista Valli. Rita is wearing Carolina Herrera.
