Astrologer Russell Grant reveals secret brain cancer battle and 5 hour operation to remove tumour

Russell Grant has opened up on his secret battle with brain cancer and the five-hour operation to remove a tumour.

The famous celebrity astrologer and in-house horoscope guru for the likes of spiritual magazines also praised his doctors for managing to save his eyesight.

The astrology expert had a tumour growth on his pituitary gland in his brain.

After various tests and scans at the hospital, Russell then went under the knife to have the mass removed.

The 71 year old TV personality thanked his "A-team" of medical support staff as he went on to explain that he is now in recovery after the invasive procedure.

Sharing the update with his Twitter followers on Tuesday 28 February, Russell also gushed over his nurses at Alex Hospital and YG Bangor Hospital.

He began: "Before Christmas I had a brain tumour removed by the A-Team Prof Pathmanban, Dr Bhalla, Dr Kearney, the caring nurses & Vicky Walsh of Alex Hospital Manchester & Dr Wilton YG Bangor.

"I'm now into recovery on @BrainTumourOrg Day. Thank you all," the former Strictly Come Dancing star added.

Next to the update, Russell shared a selfie of himself smiling at home, as he posed in a Wealdstone FC football shirt.

February 28 also marked Rare Disease Day, which the astrologer added links in support of on his Twitter page too.

The star's lifesaving operation took place as a result of warnings from doctors that the lump on his pituitary gland could end up blanking out" his optic nerve.

If left untreated, Russell could have gone blind.

Following the surgery, the famous mystic was also advised not to blow his nose and told to try not to sneeze over the next six months as both of these could cause complications.

Speaking to The Mirror after the operation, Russell shared at the time: "I am now on the road to recovery.

"There are a few complications to sort out so the post-op stuff has already started."

Reflecting on his previous premonition that he would face health issues down the line, Russell said he'd been "prepared" ever since the vision came to him in 2019.

"I didn't shout about the growth as I’d been waiting for a knee operation which was due Easter 2020, so many of you would have presumed I was going in for that," he continued, adding that Covid "ruined" that and the other op is still on his list.
