BBC 5 Live presenter Deborah James, 39, has opened up about her cancer battle in a new update. The author and broadcaster, known for hosting You, Me and the Big C, spoke about how she was undergoing chemo in her “only hope” to battle her “inoperable” disease.

Deborah was diagnosed with bowel cancer just before Christmas 2016 and has been battling it since.

However, she has now shared a “rough” update about how it has progressed in the last week.

The broadcaster shared how she had liver failure as her inoperable tumour was growing fast.

This led her to be rushed for an emergency operation to fit a stent in her liver earlier this week.

Today, the presenter gave another update as she began having chemo once again.

She explained more in her column for The Sun called Things Cancer Made Me Say.

Deborah said: “Yesterday, it felt like a miracle had happened and I started to feel a sense of relief as my blood tests began to show my liver is responding.

“And so it means I can have chemo.

“After the drugs that I’ve been taking for over two years stopped working, chemo is my only hope to blast the tumour around my bile duct.

“Due to where it is, it’s impossible to operate on it.”

She added: “But I am writing this update from my hospital chair as I’m about to restart chemo.”

Alongside her column, Deborah also shared the update on her Instagram as well.

She posted a video of her dancing along to Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger as she received chemo.

The presenter penned: “She’s BACK in the GAME!!

“Today I’m having chemo. And I’ve never been happier to say that!!!”

Deborah told her 163,000 followers on her BowelBabe page how she was having what she called the “numclear chemo”.

“Now obviously I hope chemo will do some hard core blasting and my body will do some much needed resting,” she continued in her latest update.

“But I’m back on the plan. We just need the whole army willing it to work!!!”

Following her update, she was inundated with support from her friends.

Davina McCall wrote: “Wow happy Friday indeed!! Love you.”

While Marta Barczok added: “Love seeing your smile.”

Another of her fans then penned: “You are a true inspiration.”
