Behind the scenes of Barbie: Film extra shares what life was REALLY like on set as she details in a day in the life filming the blockbuster
There’s no denying that Barbie has taken the world by storm and one of the film’s extras has shared a behind the scenes glimpse at what it was really like working on the blockbuster.
Jodi Alexander played one of the extra Barbie dolls in the film, and can be seen on screen wheeling the bins out, and has taken to TikTok to share a glimpse inside the world of Barbieland.
The box office smash hit, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has so far raked in over $774.5 million and is on track to become the second movie of 2023 to cross the billion mark.
And it seems the world of pink plastic and blonde hair is just as magical as it looked on screen as Jodie has given an inside look into what it was really like on the set.
From travelling around in pink glittery golf carts, waffles being sent around by leading star Margot herself, and a whole host of blonde wigs and pink accessories, Jodi has dished on the reality of filming Barbie.
Uploading a string of videos, Jodi revealed the day started nice and early at about 6am when the Barbies would descend on to set, where the pink sparkly golf carts with pink fluffy steering wheels would be waiting for them.

They then headed straight to the Barbie dressing room to change into a pink robe and slippers, before grabbing their sheet for that day, which would detail what hair and make-up was required for the scenes.
Next, it was time to begin the lengthy process of becoming a Barbie, which Jodi said ‘takes a village’ as she shared a video of herself sitting in the make-up chair surrounded by stylists with curling wands.
The star shared a picture of her gorgeous curled blonde wig on its stand as she wrote: ‘Here is what was attached to my head for 3 months.’
Jodie would then head to the ‘hot set’ for the day, where she would ‘gossip’ with the other Barbie extras in-between takes and drink coffee to stay awake during the long days.
The extras were then treated to some delicious snacks in the afternoon as a crepe truck was a staple on-set, as well as waffles which were sent by Margot herself.
Jodi also shared a picture of herself and the other Barbies sunbathing in-between takes as she joked: ‘Sunbathing in body foundation and wondering why we weren’t catching a tan’.
After a long day of filming, they would then remove their costumes, and Jodie confessed how it was a huge relief to take off her heavy wig each night.
Director Greta is known for creating a supportive set and it seems Barbie was no exception as Jodi told how they all had ‘belly ache from laughing so hard backstage’.

The level of detail on the set was incredible with production using so much pink paint that ‘the world ran out of [it]’ as Greta requested everything to be hand-painted instead of using CGI.
And it seems that even behind the scenes no expense was spared as they even assured there was a Welfare Marquee for the stars to visit.
Jodi revealed how all the Barbies were scanned in every outfit they wore in a booth before revealing their huge accessory collection filled with hats and scarves for all occasions.
