Betty Whites Death Certificate Reveals She Suffered a Stroke Before Her Passing

AceShowbizBetty White‘s cause of death has been revealed after it was initially said that she died of natural causes. According to her death certificate, the comedienne died from a stroke, which she suffered nearly a week before she passed away.

The death certificate, obtained by TMZ, lists Betty’s cause of death as a cerebrovascular accident, which is a loss of blood flow to part of the brain, resulting in brain tissue damage. She suffered the stroke 6 days before her passing.

Sources with direct knowledge tell the site Betty was alert and coherent after the stroke. She died peacefully in her sleep at home on December 31, three weeks before what would have been her 100th birthday.

As her cause of death was not immediately given, there were rumors that the TV icon died after receiving COVID-19 vaccine booster. Her agent Jeff Witjas denied this claim, saying in a statement to PEOPLE, “Betty died peacefully in her sleep at her home. People are saying her death was related to getting a booster shot three days earlier but that is not true. She died of natural causes. Her death should not be politicized – that is not the life she lived.”

Betty’s funeral will be held in private, in accordance to her wish. “The arrangements are being handled privately and that was Betty’s wish,” Jeff said Wednesday, January 5. “As in life, she never wanted people to make a fuss over her.”

Meanwhile, a movie honoring Betty, “Betty White: 100 Years Young — A Birthday Celebration”, will still air on her birthday, January 17. It features tons of stars, including Ryan Reynolds, Tina Fey, Robert Redford, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Jay Leno, Carol Burnett, Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel, Valerie Bertinelli, James Corden, Wendy Malick and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
