Beyoncé is skilled in many different areas. She can sing, dance, and act, all while looking flawless. But one thing she’s not the best at is whipping up a home-cooked meal, which she has admitted to.
However, there’s one dish Bey says she’s a master at making, and it’s one that is extremely popular in many families’ households, even though it requires minimal effort.
Beyoncé doesn’t cook much
Seeing as Beyoncé hasn’t had much downtime over the years due to her glittering career as a world-famous entertainer, she hasn’t had the chance to fully learn her way around the kitchen.
Because of this, the Queen Bey doesn’t whip up home-cooked meals that often. But even when she does, the singer doesn’t make anything too complicated.
“I don’t cook much,” she said during a 2006 interview with Cosmopolitan. “But I’m good at spaghetti and sandwiches. I know they’re easy, but they’re my specialty.”
Though Bey seemingly suggested that she’s not a bad cook, her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, had a different sentiment in 2019.
“Beyoncé can’t cook,” Knowles-Lawson told Us Weekly, adding that daughter Solange Knowles is the one with cooking skills. “There’s no contest!”
Beyoncé has learned how to cook a few food dishes
Since she spends $7,500 a month on a personal chef, Beyoncé hasn’t had a reason to cook any of her meals these last few years.
But she has tried upping her cooking skills whenever she’s had time off from work.
“I did some cooking, although I didn’t really enjoy that,” she told Cosmpolitan in 2011, per Capital FM, following her I Am… World Tour. “I’m not the greatest cook- I can do good things with oxtail, though.”
She added, “It was great just having the time to be a wife rather than this non-stop traveling career girl. I did all these things I wanted to do that I don’t have time for.”
Beyoncé is a master at Hamburger Helper
Preparing meals from scratch may not be Beyoncé’s specialty, but she is good at making one specific dish that’s not only easy but is super delicious.
While appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2008, the “Halo” singer revealed that she’s an expert at making Hamburger Helper, which, for those of you who don’t know, is boxed dried pasta one just adds ground beef and water to.
“I am the master of Hamburger Helper and it’s really a shame because my mother is the best cook,” Bey told Winfrey. “She cooks Creole food and gumbo and jambalaya and all the great spicy food. I’m really good at seasoning so I can doctor up something and make it taste like something completely different.”
Beyoncé added that though she’s “made oxtails and rice and peas” that have turned good, it may take her a while to get her cooking skills up.
But until there comes a time when she’s not working or being a hands-on mom to her three children, Bey will likely stick to making ice water for family dinners!
