BGT singer Amy Lou Smith details how she barely survived her first pregnancy as she prepares to return to the stage for live semi finals just weeks after welcoming her second child
Britain’s Got Talent singer Amy Lou Smith said she feels lucky to have two healthy children as she details how she barely survived her ‘terrifying’ first pregnancy.
The singer, 34, who has made it through to this week’s live semi finals of the ITV show, told The Mirror she was left so traumatised that she waited three years to try again for another baby.
Amy’s second pregnancy coincided with her prerecorded February appearance on Britain’s Got Talent, and she welcomed her daughter Aida in April. She gave birth to her first son Hudson, now four, in 2018.
The singer got candid as she recalled the struggles she experienced during her first pregnancy.
‘I was very poorly carrying him. We weren’t sure what was going on but he was small, too. And the last five weeks, I couldn’t get out of bed,’ she said.

Amy Lou said she was initially induced at 37 weeks and things appeared to be positive in the early stages of labour.
But as Hudson arrived, Amy Lou collapsed.
She revealed the hospital staff had to fight to stabilise her after it was discovered an abscess was growing unseen insider her stomach, along with baby Hudson.
At the moment of the collapse, the abscess burst and her organs started deteriorating.
Amy Lou recalls the following terrifying moments while she was conscious but out of oxygen, as medical staff were desperately trying to fight the infection flooding her body – while nurses took care of little Hudson.
‘It was a month before I got out of hospital. And I didn’t hold Hudson for the first three months of his life,’ she recalled of her recovery while her lorry driver husband Kevin took care of their son.
‘I never got to know him in the days after his birth. I was traumatised’.

Amy Lou has said she is a very ‘maternal person’ and that she always wanted to have kids – but the experience left her with post traumatic stress disorder.
It took three years before the couple – from Tipton, West Midlands – finally tried for another baby.
The singer got pregnant last August, just when she decided to apply to Britain’s Got Talent.
‘Our baby was so wanted but it had taken so much to start trying again,’ she said.
Amy Lou received an invite to audition for BGT – where she stunned the audience with her performance, especially judge Simon Cowell.
She recalled little Aida inside her kicking as she was anxious to perform.

The tanning shop receptionist will take to the stage again next week after wowing the judges with a rendition of Beyoncé’s 2006 powerhouse hit Listen from the film Dreamgirls in her audition.
Britain’s Got Talent semi finals begin on Monday at 8pm on ITV1.
