Fans have slammed Billie Eilish and her new boyfriend Jesse Rutherford for their Halloween costumes as they poked fun at their age difference, deeming them “sick and twisted”.
Billie, 20, and The Neighbourhood lead singer Jesse, 31, confirmed their romance last month as they were seen having their first public kiss in pictures obtained by Page Six, after a dining out in Studio City, California.
There had been speculation of the pair dating building up prior to their relationship confirmation, after Billie and Jesse were spotted by TMZ holding hands while walking around Universal Studios, Hollywood.
The couple appeared to address the age-gap in their romance for Halloween, as Billie was seen in a photo posted on her Instagram dressed in a baby costume beside her beau Jesse, who was transformed as an old man.
The Lost Cause singer wore a large pink teddy bear printed bonnet and matching bib, along with creepy doll-painted make-up, and was seen in more photos circulating on Twitter in her full costume wearing a white ‘nappy’ and pink furry rabbit slippers.
Jesse had his face painted with wrinkles and donned a grey receding wig and moustache as he wore blue suspenders and a brown cardigan.
Fans shared their disturbed reactions to the couple’s costumes on social media, as one person wrote: “That Billie Eilish costume is extremely disturbing and i absolutely hate it everytime it crosses my timeline."
A second commented: “It’s not funny or chic, its not poking fun, it’s disturbing, and the adults in her life are letting her down once again.”
"She's of legal age and all, but this couples costume feels uncomfortable,” a third said, as another tweeted: "I wish I could wash my eyes with soap and scrub this from my mind."
Other fans defended Billi’s choice of Halloween costume, as one wrote: "I have ALWAYS 'LOVED'@billieeilish sense of humor. This shows her as she is, HILARIOUS! All you silly people need a sense of Humor. Love it Billie."
“Their age gap is the same between Harry Styles & Olivia Wilde, but ofc she’s a woman (bc at 21 u ARE a woman) so that’s not ok,” a second challenged.
A third added: "I mean they’re trolling the people that are having a unnecessary opinion about their relationship. So In a way ur proving their point and making their joke even funnier.”
