Oscar nominee Florence Pugh has been tapped to play a killer sex robot in Drew Pearce and Vanessa Taylor’s Apple TV+ project Dolly.
Inspired by author Elizabeth Bear’s short story, this film is described as a sci-fi courtroom drama where an artificially-intelligent “companion doll” murders its owner and then demands a lawyer when the cuffs are slapped on.
Deadline reports that Dolly hasn’t been officially greenlit yet, as the script needs touching up and a director must be found.
Over the past five years, 25-year-old Pugh has racked up some impressive screen credits and emerged as one of Hollywood’s most promising stars.
The Little Drummer Girl, Midsommar, Little Women and Outlaw King are just some of them, while she’s also entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year via Black Widow.
Oh, and let’s not forget about director Olivia Wilde’s upcoming psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling, which Pugh leads opposite Harry Styles and Chris Pine.
Back in 2019, the actress suggested MCU fans are going to be “really surprised” by Black Widow.
“I think we’ve made something very raw and very painful and very beautiful and I think people are going to be really surprised by the outcome of a big action film having that much heart,” she teased.
