Bob Mortimer admits hes not well and has just been in hospital

Comedian Bob Mortimer has revealed that he's "not very well" and has just been in hospital, as he discuses his recent health problems.

Appearing on Richard Herring’s podcast the Gone Fishing star, 63, said: "I am not very well. I am not very healthy at the moment. I was in the hospital…"

Realising what he had let slip, he then added added: "I am sorry, I should not have said that, should I?"

He described his hospital admission as a "real downer" and then went onto explain why he thinks his health is suffering at the moment, and looked back on how he spent his younger years.

Bob said: "I think because I was a smoker, and an incredibly fast runner, and a very dramatic dancer, and I put that all in my younger years…

"I think I am about 10 years ahead of myself with my body ageing.”

While Bob didn’t reveal what had prompted his sudden dash, he has previous discussed that he was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis over forty years ago.

The painful autoimmune condition can cause severe swelling and stiffness of the joints. Bob has said that he has largely managed to keep his symptoms in check since his thirties but lately has had some painful flare ups.

It isn’t the only health problem Bob has juggled over the years either, previously undergoing a triple heart bypass back in 2015 after medics warned him that his arteries were 95 per cent blocked.

He spoke about this surgery at the 2018 Cats Protection Cat Of the Year Awards, revealing that he was so close to death that he made a will and was given special permission to marry his long-term girlfriend Lisa Matthews an hour before his surgery took place.

The life changing operation, which can take up to six hours in theatre to perform, “changed his perspective” and outlook on life, with Bob vowing to be healthier after the procedure.

"It changes how you feel about things and you become a lot more aware of your health. It gives you a kick up the backside and gets things in perspective.

“I can remember when I first got the news, I thought I’d be a goner and I got very sentimental about my favourite egg cup and things like the seat I watch the telly in.

“Before I had my heart problem, if I was asked to do something I would look through a mental file looking for reasons why I could say no. Now I tend to be more on the side of just doing it.”
