Britney Spears hit with retirement speculation, more ICYMI news

Retirement talk

Britney Spears is officially retiring, if a longtime member of her inner circle is to be believed. On July 5, Larry Rudolph — who’s been the pop star’s manager for nearly 25 years — resigned from his job, citing her intention to call it quits. “It has been over 2 1/2 years since Britney and I last communicated, at which time she informed me she wanted to take an indefinite work hiatus,” he said in a letter to Britney’s co-conservators, Jamie Spears and Jodi Montgomery (who this week both told the court they’ve been getting death threats following Britney’s explosive June statement blaming them for how they’ve treated her). “Earlier today, I became aware that Britney had been voicing her intention to officially retire. As her manager, I believe it is in Britney’s best interest for me to resign from her team as my professional services are no longer needed.” Elsewhere on the Britney front, her mom asked a judge to let the singer hire her own lawyer to try to end her conservatorship. Britney’s court-appointed lawyer who’s repped her for 13 years, Sam Ingram, asked a judge to let him resign.

Baby on the way

Scarlett Johansson is about to have something new to marvel at. According to a July 6 report, the “Black Widow” star and new husband Colin Jost are going to be parents together. “Scarlett is actually due soon, I know she and Colin are thrilled,” a source told Page Six. A second source added, “Scarlett is pregnant but has been keeping it very quiet. She has been keeping a very low profile.” Chatter about a pregnancy has been quietly making the rounds, as ScarJo skipped out on several “Black Widow” press events, which was telling, as it’s a big Marvel release (and she’s an executive producer). This will be Scarlett’s second child, as she shares 6-year-old daughter Rose with ex-husband Romain Dauriac.

Mr. and Mrs.

It finally happened! On July 5, Gwen Stefani confirmed that she and Blake Shelton got married over the July 4th holiday weekend in front of a small group of friends and family: The couple of nearly six years said “I do” on July 3 at his ranch in Oklahoma. “Dreams do come true !!!” Gwen captioned a series of stunning wedding images on Instagram. The singer donned a Vera Wang Haute gown for the nuptials (before switching to a minidress by the same designer for the party) and wore a wedding veil embroidered with the names of her groom and her three sons from her first marriage. Blake wore his trademark blue jeans with a tuxedo on top. They both wrote their vows, and, according to officiant and “The Voice” host Carson Daly, Blake performed his in a song he wrote for his bride.

Bad memories

While celebrating her new SiriusXM show deal this week, Megyn Kelly reflected on her career in TV, and it wasn’t always pretty. Megyn, who was once one the top names at Fox News before leaving in 2017, said, “I had this soaring career at Fox that was great by any measure, but I was miserable at home. It was too stressful, too much time away from my family and my kids, and then I overcorrected at NBC by going too soft.” Her time at NBC was a disaster. In addition to her blackface controversy (in which she defended wearing blackface if it’s for a Halloween costume,) her ratings were dismal and reports claimed she and her “Today” show colleagues didn’t get along. “To be perfectly honest, the [NBC] job wasn’t intellectually stimulating for me, and now I feel like I have the best of both worlds,” she told Business Insider. “I’m fired up and making a difference.” ”

He’s a daddy again… and again

Nick Cannon is in seventh heaven. Literally. On July 4th, model Alyssa Scott confirmed that she’d given birth to a baby — Nick’s seventh child. Four of his kids were born within six months of each other to three different mothers. On his Power 106 Los Angeles radio show on July 7, the “Masked Singer” host said he intended to have this many children at once, explaining that he’s “having these kids on purpose.” He added, “I don’t have no accident. Trust me there’s a lot of people that I could’ve gotten pregnant that I didn’t. The ones that got pregnant are the ones that were supposed to get pregnant.” Earlier in the show, Nick quipped, “I’m like a seahorse out here. That’s just the way I’m procreating.”

This week marked the one-year-anniversary of Naya Rivera’s death in a tragic boating accident at California’s Lake Piru. On July 8, her mother, Yolanda Previtire, recalled the last conversation she had with the “Glee” star, a chat that occurred the day Naya went missing. “I missed two of her FaceTime calls, and I called her back. And we had a beautiful conversation. The sun was kissing her face and she was just beautiful,” Yolanda recalled to “Good Morning America.” “She had a white, beautiful swimming suit on and she was glowing.” When authorities recovered Naya’s body days later on July 13, 2020, Yolanda said it “was a relief, in a way.”
