Bruce Springsteen fans who have had AstraZeneca vaccine barred from shows

Fans who are hoping to attend Bruce Springsteen’s upcoming theatre shows in New York may be turned away if they’ve had the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.

Anyone keen to attend the Boss’s comeback shows on Broadway will be required to show proof they’ve received the full coronavirus vaccination before being able to enter the theatre.

However, with the AstraZeneca vaccine not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) anyone who’s had that one and wants to attend is going to be disappointed.

Springsteen is returning to the stage for a limited run of performances at Jujamcyn’s St. James Theatre, kicking off June 26, with additional performances taking place through September 4.

In a FAQ dedicated to the Springsteen on Broadway show, it states guests ‘will need to be fully vaccinated with an FDA-approved vaccine in order to attend and must show proof of vaccination at their time of entry into the theatre with their valid ticket’.

It went on to state ‘fully vaccinated’ meant guests can attend at least 14 days after their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech or Moderna Covid-19 vaccine, or at least 14 days after their single dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen jab.

The AstraZeneca jab, which is yet to be cleared by the FDA with the organisation requesting that it be shown results from a large-scale trial, was not on the list.

In the UK the NHS stated the Oxford-developed AstraZeneca vaccine is ‘safe and tested and will protect you against serious illness from Covid-19’.

Sadly, the news is going to burst the bubble of any Springsteen fans among the millions to have received the AstraZeneca vaccine in countries including Canada and the UK who may find themselves keen to attend the shows this year.

Those north of the border shared their disappointment at the measures, with 1.7million Canadians receiving that particular innoculation.

Even the newspapers have shared the dismay, with the Toronto Star running the headline ‘Burn in the USA’, writing: ‘The show must go on. But if you got the AstraZeneca vaccine, you’re not invited.’

All Americans over 18 have access to three coronavirus vaccines, from Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. The White House has become more confident that it has enough supply of those three vaccines, especially since a pause on the Johnson & Johnson jab was lifted in late April.
