The moment the royal family walk out onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace following Trooping the Colour is the most highly-anticipated event of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. And The Palace is doing everything in its power to ensure Her Majesty makes it.
Royal expert Jennie Bond believes new lifts have been installed inside the 3,000-year-old palace to aid the Queen with her ascent following her recent mobility issues.
“They will have installed everything to get her up there,” Jennie told us. “They put in a lift at Craigowan Lodge at her residence in Balmoral, so I believe that will have been done at the Palace, too. They didn’t use to have one.”
The Queen, 96, who has cancelled several recent high-profile engagements owing to mobility issues, is said to be planning to take part in the celebrations, but it is not known which events she will attend.
“We’ve got to accept the Palace’s word that she has good days and she has bad days,” said Jennie. “And if unfortunately, one of those days coincides with one of the less good days she simply will not be able to comfortably make the car of helicopter journey into London.
"I don’t think she’ll go to The Party at The Palace, because I’ve always thought before, ‘My God, the things they put on’ – does she really want to see Ozzy Osbourne or whoever? That’s one for the younger royals.
“It will be really really sad if we don’t see her on the balcony. That’s the moment we all cheer and shout and say 'Well done, Mam.' That’s the moment we can really show our appreciation for her."
Buckingham Palace doesn’t usually announce a line up for balcony appearances but the royals who will celebrate alongside Her Majesty have been confirmed.
The Queen has decided only working members of the Royal Family will watch the Platinum Jubilee celebrations unfold at Trooping the Colour, including Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton, as well as their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, and their children Lady Louise and brother James Viscount Severn will also stand on the balcony alongside Princess Anne and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra.
It means her son Prince Andrew as well as her grandson Prince Harry, wife Meghan and their two children, will not be standing by her side as they have done in previous years to witness the Horse Guards parade after they stepped away from royal duties and left the royal family in favour of starting up a new life in America.
Although Harry, Meghan and Andrew will not be on the balcony, they are expected to be involved with other celebratory events over the weekend, although these have been kept under wraps so far.
