Journalist Camilla Tominey appeared on Monday's episode of This Morning where she slammed the "amateur sleuths" trying to tackle the Nicola Bulley case.
Camilla, 44, joined Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on the set of This Morning on Monday to discuss how the tragic Nicola Bulley's disappearance that has been all over the news in recent weeks has become a popular topic for people to try to solve themselves.
Nicola went missing in St Michael's on Wyre in Lancashire three weeks ago, after dropping her two young daughters off at school, before taking the family dog, Willow, for a walk.
On Sunday, a body was found in nearby River Wyre. On Monday evening, police confirmed the body was pulled from the river on Sunday was sadly Nicola's.
Speaking on Monday morning, Camilla said: "Actually the police have got an extraordinarily difficult job balancing the news to the press to report on latest developments with the family's needs to maintain privacy and try to keep it together for the sake of these two young girls.
"However, a vacuum was created that has been filled with amateur sleuths not helping.
"Often the mentality is to blame the media, but what the media is trying to do is to keep a missing person's enquiry alive to invite people to come forward who might have valid information, and also to keep the public updated if there's this unsensual appetite for news.
"We can have another discussion about whether there's this kind of grizzly fixation with these sort of cases that we all need to check ourselves and say ''hang on a minute, are we all being too intrusive?'"
Philip then said: "That's fuelled by there are an enormous amount of true crime series on streaming services. Obviously this is something that's enormous on podcasts, people looking at cold cases, so it's the culture now."
Camilla then continued: "Also you have the added complication of in that press conference, the police talking about protecting Nicola's' privacy while at the same time releasing this information about her vulnerabilities with alcohol and the menopause.
"Now, we can have a separate conversation about whether that was appropriate
"All I would say because I sort of feel personally about this because my mother had a drinking problem, and I've spoken about it on this show and elsewhere, is that what we've learned about her is that she had vulnerabilities and clearly had complications in her life. And therefore and added amount of sympathy needs to go to these children and her husband who were clearly dealing with a difficult situation."
She added: "If we're to learn anything about this, it's that, you know, sometimes peoples' lives are very difficult and why this has resonated is because this lady is my age, not just in terms of we drop off our kids, we go for dog walks, we live a normal life.
"But also because sometimes we can be vulnerable. And sometimes we can have problems and sometimes we can find it difficult to cope."
