Camilla had started to understand Princess Diana's "discontent" with royal life before she married Prince Charles back in 2005, an author has claimed.
Tina Brown, who is the former editor of Vanity Fair, said in her book The Palace Papers that the Duchess of Cornwall had a difficult time with Charles' "regimented" lifestyle.
In an excerpt published by The Telegraph, the royal expert explained: "The Prince’s routine was relentless. He never ate lunch, and breakfasted on the same birdseed and peeled fruit every morning.
"Punctuality had never been Camilla’s strong suit, but Charles expected her to be ready for engagements at his own regimented pace.
"When she asked where they were going, he would snap: 'Haven’t you read the brief?' One of her friends at that time told me that she had even started to feel some empathy with Diana’s manifold discontents."
Tina went on to claim that Camilla, 74, who recently said she's "sure" the Queen watched Strictly winner Rose Ayling-Ellis, felt there was an upside to not being a royal prior to her marriage to the Prince of Wales, 73, as her calendar was never filled with engagement she didn't want to take part in.
"For a while, she had thought that there was an upside to not being Charles’s wife. She had always hated flying, speaking in public, dressing up and getting press attention," the author wrote.
She added: "She had never had a calendar filled with things she didn’t want to do, which essentially defines the royal way of life."
When Camilla and Charles tied the knot, she became stepmum to Prince William, 39, and Prince Harry, 37.
It's recently been claimed that William has given his seal of approval for Camilla to become Queen Consort when Prince Charles is crowned.

The Duke of Cambridge, who is second in line to the thrown, is said to be happy for his stepmother to take the role following Queen Elizabeth's statement, where she said it would be her "sincere wish" for Camilla to be recognised as Queen Consort.
A source has revealed Prince William has accepted Camilla as part of the family after seeing the happiness she brings to his dad. But that wasn't always the case, it's been claimed.
An insider told the Daily Mail: "There were huge family rows in the early stages of Charles and Camilla's marriage as everyone found their feet. William didn't have the best relationship with his father back then.
