Charles and Camilla were ‘anxious’ and ‘didn’t enjoy’ the Coronation, says Royal expert

King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla looked "anxious" at today's historic Coronation earlier today, Saturday, 6 May, says a royal expert.

The ceremony began at 11am and lasted for two hours but Royal expert Jennie Bond exclusively told OK! she was “worried” about how the pair looked during the ceremony.

She said: "I was surprised by the the weirdness of some of the rituals and I was not surprised, but a bit worried, about how anxious both the King and the Queen looked."

Jennie also questioned if the royals even enjoyed themselves due to the complexity of the ceremony, and said she would have liked to see them be more “relaxed”.

She said: “Do we need such a very complicated ceremony?

“It's so complicated and complex in its choreography, and everything that has to happen that I doubt whether they enjoyed it.

“I would have liked them to have a ceremony which they could have expressed a bit more, be more relaxed and be more joyful.”

The Royal expert also said that some elements of the ceremony were “almost bizarre”.

Speaking about the Coronation Gauntlet – the white glove that Charles wore on his right hand – expert Jennie said she was surprised by how “alien” she found that ritual in particular.

The white glove is a traditional part of the Coronation ceremony and is worn on the right hand by the monarch as they hold the Sovereign’s Sceptre with Cross during the crowning.

The Coronation Gauntlet was previously worn by Charles’ grandfather George VI, who was the last King and the monarch before Elizabeth II.

Jennie said: “It was an almost bizarre ritual by how alien and odd the ritual seemed to me.

“I mean, I’ve read about it, I've seen footage of the previous coronation, and somehow it seemed so strange putting on one glove.”

Although Jennie said people wanted “pomp and pageantry” out of the Coronation event, she also said: “It made me think that this might be the last such Coronation we see because I don't think it fits terribly well with modern life."

Following the Coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey, King Charles and the Royal Family gathered on Buckingham Palace balcony to watch a flypast and wave to the crowds of adoring fans.
