Charles’ Coronation to see thousands line streets as King and Camilla make history

After months of meticulous planning, King Charles’ Coronation is finally here!

The special ceremony, which takes place at Westminster Abbey, will officially see the new monarch formally crowed the king, eight months on since his accession to the throne following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth last September.

The historic occasion will no doubt be a staple in many calendars around the world, as it marks the first coronation the United Kingdom has seen in over 70 years, with viewers from all corners of the globe set to tune into the special broadcast that will see the coronation streamed to millions.

With just hours to go until the pageantry truly kicks off with a procession in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach that will see King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla travel from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, thousands of visitors have already begun to arrive in London in the hopes of securing the perfect viewing spot to watch the event unfold.

Making the most of the hype and grandeur of the occasion, several eager fans have even been taking photos at a number of attractive installations that have been set up around the capital, with a throne, crown, and plenty of flowers providing the perfect backdrop to take a commemorative selfie.

In recognition of their commitment to the once in a lifetime celebration, a handful of lucky fans were even treated to a surprise visit by King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton, The Princess of Wales as they greeted fans who had camped out on Friday.

While not everyone will be rushing to London to join in the proceedings, many towns and cities around the country are also staging street parties to bring the celebration a little closer to home and continue to help citizens away from the capital to feel including in the momentous occasion.

With around twelve hours left to go until the Coronation procession officially begins, the final arrangements have been put in place to make sure the event goes seamlessly.

From 6am onwards, the viewing pens will open up for members of the public hoping to line the streets, as the King and Queen travel past them, meanwhile from 7:15am onwards security checkpoints will open Victoria Tower Gardens, where the 2000 VIP guests attending the ceremony in person will begin to arrive prior to the ceremony.

Among the famous names confirmed to be on the guest list include US First Lady Jill Biden, several former Prime Ministers, the Beckhams, Joanna Lumley and a whole host of royal arrivals from across Europe and beyond.

One last minute confirmation that will no doubt please royal fans, is Prince Harry, who has put aside his differences with his father in recent months to attend the ceremony, despite it being his young son Archie’s 4th birthday!

Although Harry has confirmed he will be present alongside other members of his family such as Prince William and cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Harry’s wife Meghan Markle will not be accompanying him as she remains in California with the couple’s children.

A number of other guests to look out for at the the ceremony, include Queen Camilla’s children and grandchildren, the latter of which will be serving as her Pages of Honour, and of course the rest of the working royals, which include Prince Edward, Sophie Wessex, Princess Anne and Timothy Laurence.

The service at Westminster abbey is due to begin promptly at 11am, with the must-see moment – the crowning – due to take place at around midday.

Following the service, which will also see both King Charles and Queen Camilla anointed with holy oil, the couple will begin the procession back towards Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach, that was previously used by Charles’ late mother at her coronation all the way back in 1953.
