An unearthed throwback video from 1996 shows a 24 year old Claudia Winkleman looking unrecognisable.

The BBC dug out the short clip from their vaults, showing the Strictly Come Dancing presenter looking stunning in a pair of smart dark trousers with a matching blazer alongside a white top.

The star, who was recently seen enjoying a family day out with husband Kris, appeared as a "Chat Up Connoisseur" on Good Morning with Anne and Nick, where she gave some flirting tips to host Nick Owen, while Anne Diamond was nowhere to be seen.

In the footage, which was posted on the official Twitter page for the BBC Archive, Claudia said she "hardly ever" got approached by men, but confessed: "I get very excited when I do."

She then launched into what people need to do in order capture attention as she said: "Eye contact. It's all eye contact but it can be terrifying. You can be sitting at the other side of the bar making eye contact for an hour and a half and then he'll leave."

The star, who recently admitted the beauty disasters she experienced from doing at-home treatments, continued: "They might instigate it – if a girl comes up to a guy saying, 'Do you want a light?' she's got four boxes of matches in her bag.

"She does not want a match, she wants something else. Boys are so sweet and I don't think they realise. The fear of rejection is huge – they have to embrace it."

It was captioned: "#OnThisDay 1996: Good Morning with Anne and Nick drafted in some dating experts to provide some top tips for improving your pulling power."

Fans were left shocked by Claudia's appearance back then as the now-49 year old sports a fringe. One person commented: "Was about to say, she's unrecognisable."

While another said: "@ClaudiaWinkle Before the Fringe".

Claudia previously spoke exclusively to OK! Online about why she keeps her trademark fringe as she said: “It's wrinkled like a Shar Pei under the fringe.

"It's never been cleaned. There are small creatures under there. There are parrots, squirrels. It should be protected by UNESCO for the wildlife.”

She said that having a fringe is the key to an easier life for her. “When I was younger, I would dress as somebody different every day,” she revealed.

“I’d wake up and think, ‘Oh, shall I wear gingham and have a high ponytail today? Another day I’d think ‘No, I need straight hair, I'm going to have to iron it’ or ‘I’ll wear a trench coat today, should I have a side parting?’”

She added: “But then I found what I wear, which is basically black clothes, and I found my fringe. It frees up a lot of time.”

“It's like a uniform. I think my kids really like wearing school uniform because they just get up and get dressed and don't have to think about it. I needed that same thing, even though I was a grown-up.”
