The Illinois Congressman previously confirmed his 17-year-old daughter’s passing through a statement in a Twitter post on June 13, though her cause of death has yet to be released.
AceShowbiz -Illinois Congressman Sean Casten is mourning the death of his daughter Gwen at the age of 17. In a statement on Twitter, the lawmaker paid tribute to his late daughter while also sharing heartbreaking details of her final moments.
The statement, which was shared on his social media accounts on Wednesday, June 15, talked about how Gwen enjoyed a family dinner on the evening June 12 before heading out with some friends. “When she got home, she said goodnight to Kara and I, texted a friend to make sure she got home OK, and didn’t wake up on Monday morning. The only thing that we know about her death is that it was peaceful,” he wrote.
The politician also gushed over Gwen’s numerous accomplishments and diverse passions. “There are no words to describe the hole in your heart when a child dies,” he noted. “Gwen was a happy, healthy, well adjusted young woman who was looking forward to starting her freshman year at the University of Vermont where she was planning to study Environmental Science.”
Gwen created the Empowerment Club at her high school that focused on “everything from gun violence prevention to environmental protection to LGBTQ allyship to organizing Black Lives Matter rallies to registering students to vote.” She was also passionate about music as she played trumpet and participated in her school’s production of “Mary Poppins”.
He continued, “She had the good fortune to have a community of good friends, teachers and family and the good wisdom to realize how much she owed them. If her light seemed a bit brighter than most it was because she was so generous in reflecting back the light and love that so many gave to her.”
“We want purpose. We want to believe in a brighter tomorrow. But the only thing we can control is our present,” he added. Before ending the statement, Sean expressed his gratitude to those who reached out to him to offer condolences in the wake of the loss of his daughter.
He penned, “To all asking what they can do, we ask only that you live your lives as Gwen lived hers.” He concluded, “Savor the moments. Use every ounce of energy you have to ensure a better, more tolerant, more generous, more loving tomorrow. Not because you know that your tomorrow will come, but because you know that someone else’s will. Lead with Love. – Sean, Kara, and Audrey Casten.”
Sean confirmed Gwen’s passing in a tweet on June 13. While her cause of death has yet to be released, the Dupage County coroner in Illinois claimed to E! News that “her passing is under investigation.”
