Sue Cleaver, 59, has opened up about her upcoming venture on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. The actress, best known for playing Eileen Grimshaw on ITV’s Coronation Street, has discussed her fears and excitement about the upcoming series of the jungle show.

She told how viewers would see a “different” version of her than they’re used to seeing in the character of Eileen Grimshaw.

Speaking to ITV about the upcoming series, she admitted she is “different” to her on-screen character.

Sue said: “Viewers are going to see a different person to the person they think I am! I am very different.

“That can be worrying. They might decide they don’t like me as much as Eileen!”

While she flies out to Australia for the show, Sue has been written out of Corrie for the time being.

She isn’t the first actor from the Cobbles to have taken part in the daring reality show.

Simon Gregson and Jennie McAlpine have both been part of the show and even gave advice to Sue as she prepared to take on the brutal Bushtucker Trials.

The soap star said: “I have spoken to Jennie and Simon. They seemed to think I will have an absolute ball.

“They have told me I will love it and have a great time. It is very positive and I am going there feeling excited.”

She furthered that the prospect of being “Queen of the Jungle” wasn’t something she was deeply concerned with.

She clarified it was more important for her to just enjoy the “whole” experience.

“I am just going in to enjoy the experience.

“I can’t imagine an old bird like me winning! It is very much a young person’s show.

“But whatever happens, I am sure it is going to be amazing.”

It comes a few years after Sue spoke about her deadly illness which she has since overcome.

As part of World Sepsis Day 2019, Sue chose to speak out about her experience with the condition.

Appearing on an episode of This Morning, Sue explained to then hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that she first thought pains were a flare up of her irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), but soon found out that she was suffering from a kidney infection.

The condition led to some bizarre and worrying symptoms and even her co-stars began to worry about her health.

Cleaver explained: “I was working and I had gone in on the Tuesday and late in the afternoon I said, ‘Are you gonna see me in this scene because I’m really not feeling great?

“I need to go home and sleep’. And, you know, my side was sore.

“Then I came back in the next morning at half seven and it was the hottest day of the year and I was on set with a hot water bottle, shaking.”
