Richard Madeley, 65, has sadly just been forced to pull out of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2021 after a medical emergency meant he had to temporarily leave Gwrych Castle for hospital treatment. As a result, due to ITV’s strict Covid restrictions, he wasn’t allowed to return to camp.

Despite Richard’s disappointment over the situation, upon his exit he is sure to see plenty of compliments from fans who were stunned by his ageless appearance during his short stint in the reality show.

The Good Morning Britain presenter recently spilled the secrets behind his age-defying looks in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk.

Discussing the overwhelming reaction he received following his appearance on ITV’s Loose Men, during which he spoke about turning 65, Richard admitted that he credits his appearance to the make-up he wears on-screen and good genes.

The star said: “To begin with, when you’re on television as a man, you’re allowed to wear make-up.

“Make-up will cover a multitude of sins, so that’s the first thing to say.

“There’s a difference between the way most people look on telly, presenters that is, who have spent 10 minutes in make-up, and the way they look when they get up out of bed in the morning.”

Richard went on to say he also credits his late mum Mary for his looks, as she often left people shocked when she told them how old she was, even towards the end of her life.

He added: “Secondly, I think that, I’ve said that my mother died when she was in her early 80s and she did, but until her last few months on the planet, my mum looked much younger than she was.

“Very youthful, and people were saying that about her when she was in her 50s, for the last 30 years of her life it was frequently commented on.

“And when mum’s age came up in conversation, people would say, ’66 or 67? No I don’t believe it!’

“I don’t know what my dad would have looked like in old age, because he died when he was 49, he had a sudden heart attack out of nowhere, just keeled over and collapsed and died in my mum’s arms.”

Richard continued: “So I’ve no idea what he would have looked like, especially as the years went by, but mum certainly looked a lot younger than she was.

“So I think if there is anything in that beyond the make-up, it’s genes, it’s just genetics.

“I think as a man moving into middle age, maybe late middle age, I don’t know how you categorise it.”

Richard also insisted how important it is to watch your weight as you get older.

He explained: “It’s important to keep weight down, that helps.

“So I think it’s a combination of make-up and a bit of genetic luck!”

While announcing his unfortunate exit from I’m A Celebrity today, Richard took to Instagram to reassure fans he was feeling fine after his trip to the hospital.

He said: “Richard here – firstly just to say that I’m absolutely FINE. I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“By leaving the camp, I had consequently broken the Covid ‘bubble’ and as such I’ve had to leave the castle and all the wonderful celebs that remain in the camp.”

Richard added: “Obviously I’m gutted to be leaving so soon but the safety of all the campmates is the number one priority.

“I’m incredibly excited to watch their journey continue…even more so at the prospect of being somewhere a little warmer than Gwrych Castle.

“Thank you to everyone who supported me on my brief but completely unforgettable adventure – I’ve made some great friends and honestly had the time of my life.”
