Strictly Come Dancing stalwart Craig Revel Horwood, 56, has admitted that the BBC show’s strict Covid bubbles put a “dampener” on potential romances blossoming last year. Craig revealed that now Freedom Day is approaching, he is most excited to see the return of the so-called Strictly “curse” for the 2021 series.
The Strictly judge divulged: “It depends what happens with Covid but when people are in bubbles, they can’t touch each other.
“It put a dampener on the Strictly curse.”
The curse is a term used to refer to a breakdown in the relationship of a participating celebrity or professional dancer during, or soon after, the show.
Craig even went as far as to say he “looks forward” to the programme’s notorious “curse” every year.
He admitted to The Mirror: “I look forward to the curse every year because I never think of it as a curse, I always considered that a blessing.
“It’s better meeting someone at work isn’t it? Someone you are dancing with and getting to know and fall in love.
“Rather that than a dating app.
“That’s how everyone has to meet these days.”
The “curse” has seen couples including Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton becoming an item, after they were paired together for the 2018 show.
Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez also developed a relationship after meeting one another on Strictly in 2017.
The couple are now engaged and share a baby daughter, Mia.
Katya Jones and Seann Walsh also caused a stir when they were pictured kissing after Strictly rehearsals in 2018.

Katya was married to fellow Strictly pro Neil Jones at the time, while comedian Seann was in a long-term relationship with Rebecca Humphries.
Seann and Rebecca split after the photos emerged and Neil and Katya announced their decision to separate in 2019 after 11 years of marriage.
A BBC insider reportedly told The Sun ahead of the 2020 show that kissing between pro dancers and celebrities would not be allowed amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Producers were said to have warned contestants about sticking to strict anti-coronavirus measures.
They also reportedly clarified that any physical relationships will be a clear breach of the rules.
A source told the publication at the time: “While most of the pros are coupled up, there’s never any guarantees about what might happen.
“HRVY has been quite open about the fact he’s game for a bit of romance. But clearly, in the current climate, we don’t want him mingling outside of his bubble or putting himself — or others — at any risk.
“Celebs caught in the act have been told they face being chopped from the show.
“It’s a case of one strike and they’re out.”
