Dame Barbara Windsor's widower Scott Mitchell has spoken out on the cruel messages he comes across online.
The 58 year old appeared on Good Morning Britain on Thursday 30 September to talk about running the London Marathon in a bid to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK after his beloved partner died in December 2020.
Speaking to co-hosts Kate Garraway, 54, and Ben Shephard, 46, Scott explained how a woman had stopped in the street to give him a hug before thanking him for how open Barbara was about her struggle with dementia.
He told the pair: "It's very comforting to know and it's really important and that's one of the other things that spurs me on to do this.
"A lady stopped me in the street, I remember, while Barbara was still here. She said to me, 'Can I a give you a hug?' and I said, 'Certainly,' and she said, 'I just want to thank you for being so open about the illness because we finally did something about my husband's mum…'
"That makes it all worth it to me, that makes me ignore any of the kind of nasty comments that you see, which we all get."
Clearly shocked, Kate questioned: "Do you?" to which he responded: "Unfortunately at times. You know, you'll get someone who wants to be a bit horrible on the internet. I tend not to look. I usually stumble across something by mistake."
Scott said he tries to push past the negativity as he continued: "But I put those, whatever they are, people to one side and focus on the kind people who have supported us, who say the most wonderful things about Barbara to me. We have to focus on the positive."
He went on to explain how he always thinks of Barbara as he said: "She's constantly on my mind. You know, I do, I dream about her a lot. I talk to her when I'm running.
"I think you do, it's part of grieving and we all go through those things when you do grieve.

"I do like to try and keep a fairly positive stand on it. Barbara was an incredible positive lady. The way you saw her, that was her attitude to life."
Barbara passed away at the age of 83 following a battle with Alzheimer's. At the time, Scott, who she married in 2000, announced the heartbreaking news in a statement.
He shared: "Her passing was from Alzheimer's/Dementia and Barbara eventually died peacefully and I spent the last seven days by her side.

"Myself, her family and friends will remember Barbara with love, a smile and affection for the many years of her love, fun, friendship and brightness she brought to all our lives and the entertainment she gave to so many thousands of others during her career."
He added: "May you rest in peace now my precious Bar. I've lost my wife, my best friend and soul mate and my heart or life will never feel the same without you."
