St Peter and St James Hospice shop, in Lewes, East Sussex, was thrilled to be handed garments belonging to the legendary singer, who died aged 103 last year. Dozens of items, including 15 dresses, numerous skirts, tops and “a whole rail of petticoats”, were donated by Dame Vera’s daughter to the hospice charity, of which her mother was patron.
Virginia Lewis-Jones, 75, has spent much of the past year sorting through her mother’s possessions. She decided that the shop, not far from Dame Vera’s home, was the “natural recipient” for the bulk of her wardrobe.
The hospice held a special vintage event with Virginia and her husband, Tom, to coincide with Remembrance Day weekend.
