Dan Walker, 43, took a brief break from presenting BBC Breakfast this morning to shut down viewers on Twitter. This comes after some appeared to be comparing him to former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, 55, who exited the show last night.

Posting in view of his 696,000 followers, Dan urged people to not compare his show to anyone else’s.

He wrote: “To all the shouty, sweary people telling me I’m nothing like you know who… thank you.

“If you want a programme happy to exploit issues like mental health to create controversy, division & clicks I’m delighted to say… you’re in the wrong place.

“Have a wonderful Wednesday.”

The tweet appears to be referencing Piers, who quit GMB last night.

The presenter left following his comments on Meghan Markle’s landmark interview with Oprah Winfrey.

During the interview, she opened up about her mental health alongside her husband Prince Harry.

Airing on Sunday on CBS and Monday on ITV, the chat also levelled some huge revelations about the Royal Family.

In Monday morning’s GMB, Piers claimed he did not believe her, in a stint which caused over 40,000 complaints to Ofcom.

Yesterday, Piers stormed off the GMB set after weather presenter Alex Beresford condemned his comments about Meghan.

Then last night the former confirmed he was leaving the show as co-anchor.

Many of Dan’s followers were supportive of his tweet this morning.

One wrote: “I enjoy your show every single morning; it’s funny and it’s a joy to watch.

“You and Louise [Minchin] are a breath of fresh air. Ignore the haters and focus on the supporters, have a good day Dan.”

“You and Louise are a lovely calm professional watch in the morning x”, added another.

“I prefer my morning news less shouty that’s why I watch”.

A third wrote: “Dan, you are amazing. You know who is the reason I turned over and got introduced to you.

“You’re professional, care about guests and viewers, and you like to have a bit of fun where appropriate. You are my hero… never change.”

Dan also waded in on Piers’ exit from GMB last night on social media.

He tweeted: “Sorry to hear the news about your departure from GMB @piersmorgan

“If you’d like to come on the UK’s number 1 breakfast show to talk about it… we could make some space for you in the morning”.
