Dan Walker has given fans a new update after suffering from a horrific bike injury earlier this week.
The Channel 5 news presenter and ex-Strictly star, 45, shocked fans when he revealed he’d been involved in a bike collision during his cycle to work in Sheffield on Monday (20th February).
The presenter shared photos of his injuries to social media, revealing he'd been rushed to hospital after the collision made him fear for his life and left him "out cold for about 20 minutes".
Dan has now updated fans on his recovery and took to social media to share a photo of his adorable dog, Winnie, with part of his injuries from the crash visible on his hand.
"Winnie hasn’t left my side this week. She’s the best," he began his message.
"2 things happened today… 1. I had my first solid food, 2. I ordered a new cycling helmet. Thank you for all the lovely messages & for asking how I’m doing."
Dan added: "The swelling is going down but the body is still aching."
The presenter has been documenting his recovery via Twitter after receiving treatment for his injuries following the accident, going on to reveal that his work commute to a Sheffield train station was almost his very last.
Sharing a photo of his bruised face to his followers earlier this week, Dan wrote: "Bit of an accident this morning. Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike.
"Face is a mess. I don’t think anything is broken. Thanks to Shaun and Jamie for sorting me out and the lovely copper at the scene. Thankful for our NHS."
Dan then revealed that the accident left him "out cold" and he does not remember the collision itself.
"Blown away by all the lovely messages. Thank you," he continued. "Just got home from hospital. Battered and bruised but – amazingly – nothing broken. Very thankful to still be here.
"I have no memory of anything and just remember coming round on the tarmac with paramedics & police around me.
"Thanks for all your kindness. Jamie & Shaun were so great in the ambulance – not sure I was making much sense [laughing emoji] Thanks to Conor the copper, Charlotte in x-ray & Hannah for being so considerate & brilliant in such a busy A & E."
In a later update, Dan said that wearing a helmet had saved his life as without one, he wouldn't have been here to tell the tale.
"The helmet I was wearing saved my life today so – if you're on a bike – get one on your head. Smashed my watch & phone, ruined my trousers, my bike is a mess but I’m still here [praying emoji].
"I understand this is a contentious issue and I don't want an argument about it. I'm just happy mine worked today and the police officer at the scene called me this afternoon and said I would not be here now if I wasn't wearing one [helmet emoji]."
