David Beckham’s emotional and humble appearance at Westminster Hall to honour the Queen has been a talking point on social media today, as many praised how lowkey he was for the historic moment. The 47-year-old began queuing at 2am amongst other mourners and waited almost 13 hours to see the coffin.

While waiting, those amongst him said he was friendly with others who were also waiting to pay their respects.

Danielle Lewis, 49, who was behind David in the queue, said of his appearance: “We only noticed him around 12pm.

“He was quite solemn.

“He was stopping for pictures with people but he didn’t really say anything – he seemed lost in his own thoughts. But he was lovely,” she added to The Sun.

Speaking after the moment, the father-of-four said his experience was “very emotional”, adding: “The silence, the feeling in the room is very hard to explain.

“We’re all there saying thanks to Her Majesty for being kind, for being caring, for being reassuring throughout the years she’s been our Queen.

“The legacy that she has left is incredible.”

He went on to say paying respect to the Queen was “the right thing to do”.

The ex footballer added that he also wanted to attend on behalf of his family, particularly his late grandparents who were royalists.

“If my grandparents would have been here today I know they would have wanted to be here,” he continued.

David wasn’t afraid to show his emotional side as he was pictured wiping away tears and looking emotional as he paid his respects.

For the occasion, he opted for a smart black three-piece suit and a flat cap.

Victoria Beckham’s husband has been praised by many on social media amid reports he turned down a fast track pass from the regular queue to see the coffin.

It comes after This Morning presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were seen in a separate queue, which gave them faster admission.

After backlash, an ITV source told Express.co.uk that the pair were given press accreditation for an item on Tuesday’s show.

The Queen’s state funeral will take place on Monday from 11am.

She died surrounded by her loved ones at Balmoral on September 8.

Following her death, Charles was appointed as King Charles III, while his wife Camilla became Queen Consort.

Other changes included the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge becoming the new Prince and Princess of Wales.

The latter title was previously held by the late Princess Diana.
