Harry Potter star David Thewlis, 58, has taken to Instagram to announce that he has married his French partner Hermine Poitou. The star, who plays wizard Remus Lupin in the films, revealed that he has married for the second time after falling in love with the former ringmistress he first moment he saw her.

In view of his 211,000 followers, the screenwriter posted a series of sweet snaps along with a lengthy post announcing his celebratory news.

He wrote: “When I first met Hermine she was wearing a cherry red dress with white polka dots and smoking tobacco from a clay pipe.

“She told me she was the retired ringmistress of a travelling flea circus.”

The star revealed that despite initially thinking Hermine was joking, he now laughs at the fond memory.

He continued: “I thought she was joking, but it was true. Ça a été un coup de foudre. These days nobody smokes and the only rings are on our fingers.

“These days, sleeping beside her, I wake up laughing in the middle of the night.”

The actor went on to explain that his new wife was returning to her native France and leaving him behind in London while she visited family, leaving him feeling at loose ends.

David continued: “Tomorrow she is leaving for Paris and Provence to visit her family for the first time in over a year, whilst I must remain here in London, hawking fine literature to the masses.

“I am already a little lost,” he added, “I feel like one of her poor fleas, off balance and out of control on a flying trapeze, with no net and no one to catch me.”

The Harry Potter star went on to relay a conversation he had with his new wife, after she likened him to a “flea” ahead of her departure.

Despite the former ringmistress reassuring her beau that “everything will be fine” and that “fleas can fly”, the star struggled to see the silver lining.

After saying that the creatures cannot fly, hear or see, his wife claimed that they are uniquely strong.

“But they can jump 150 times their own height and can pull 160,000 times their own weight,” Hermine said, before her husband insisted that the comparison between himself and the insect end there.

The post continued: “Hermine is almost packed. “I’ll miss you,” I say, “and I expect you’ll miss me. “

“She smiles and puts on her headphones, as if to say, ‘Yes, of course I will,'” the post ended.

The star has previously dropped hints that he had married Hermine, referring to her as his “patient wife” in a social media post.

The actor shares a daughter, 16-year-old Gracie with his ex-partner Anna Friel, who he split from in 2010 after nearly 10 years of being together.

The pair started dating after meeting on a flight.

He was also previously married to Sarah Sugarman.

The marriage lasted two years before they went their separate ways in 1994.
