Dawn French unrecognisable as she transforms into Claudia Winkleman for Traitors Comic Relief sketch

Dawn French and Claudia Winkleman have officially joined forces to raise money for Comic Relief in an exciting Traitors themed sketch for the annual charity event.

The Vicar Of Dibley star, 65, looked virtually unrecognisable as she posed alongside the Strictly Come Dancing host, 51, in a playful Instagram selfie on Friday.

Dressed in one of Claudia’s iconic jumpers and sporting a black wig complete with signature blunt fringe, Dawn posed alongside Claudia in the cheeky selfie ahead of the sketch which is due to air next week.

Captioning the post as: “Coming soon…#traitors #comicrelief,” Claudia could be seen in hysterics as she laughed at Dawn’s side in the cheerful snap.

Additionally, in the photo the words “Claudia Winkle” are placed over the real Winkleman, while the words “Also Claudia Winkle” are placed over comedienne Dawn.

According to the BBC, Dawn will also be joining forces with her longtime comedy partner Jennifer Saunders for the special event, as the duo reprise their iconic partnership on screen.

The selfie also comes just days after the BBC formally announced that French and Saunders would be joining forces with former Great British Bake Off host Mary Berry, to star in the Traitors themed sketch.

The reality show first hit our screens last December and quickly amassed a global fan following, with several international spin offs, soon ensuing.

The premise of the show revolves around trying to identity the saboteur or ‘traitors’ among the group, in order to secure a cash prize at the end of the show.

Comic Relief’s founder Richard Curtis announced the news of the sketch on Monday, during Claudia’s regular Radio 2 show.

Discussing the upcoming charity sketch, Claudia told the BBC: “I can’t wait for people to see this sketch. I’m so grateful to Comic Relief for putting the whole thing together. I feel like I’m in an alternate universe, and I like it.”

Jennifer Saunders then said: “Worst day of my life, I don’t know why I agree to these things. The only reason why I agreed to this one was to meet Mary Berry.”

Before Dawn quipped: “This was the second worst day of my life. The absolute worst one was meeting Jennifer Saunders.

“The only reason I agreed to this one was to show Claudia Winkleman the horror that awaits her in the mirror in 30 years’ time…”

Richard Curtis then concluded: “I’m unbelievably excited about this sketch. The Traitors is the most brilliant reality show of all time, and I hope that we can mercilessly tear it apart.

Comic Relief returns to BBC One on Friday March 17th at 7pm
