Death In Paradise’s Josephine Jobert on private ‘suffering’ behind the scenes

Death In Paradise: Josephine Jobert shares ‘apocalypse’ rainfall

Death in Paradise star Josephine Jobert, who is known on-screen as DS Florence Cassell, might have a dramatic life as her character, but she’s now revealed she’s also been having a “rough” time in real life.

The star had invited Instagram fans to ask her anything, prompting one to quiz: “What’s the best new discovery you have learned about yourself in the last year?”

Answering openly and in detail, the French actress replied: “I’ve been through a rough and very challenging time not that long ago (during a professional experience).

“I suffered a lot, but gosh, I came out of this so changed and powerful!”

The 38-year-old elaborated: “I’ve learnt that I’m mentally stronger than I thought I was, that I can stand up for myself and other people when facing difficulties and having to deal with unfairness.

“I also learnt to never get intimidated and to believe in myself and my capacities, no matter what,” she declared.

Josephine added that the strife and struggle she experienced has made her more independent and led to her longing to become her “own boss”.

“I developed the desire and the need… to create my own projects,” she reflected.

“To be able to choose the people I want to work with and how to work with them. To not depend on anyone.”

The hard-working actress has now clubbed together with her mum Véronique Mucret, a multi-talented entertainer with a background in writing, acting and directing herself.

Besides writing sessions with her mum, the ambitious BBC star explained further that she also intends to produce and direct in the future.

Meanwhile, the actress also regularly posts in two languages, so that both her French and British viewers can understand what’s happening in her life.

“I started [my career] in France, so I want to keep on writing in French,” she revealed on her Instagram Stories, adding that, as an international star, she also ensures she keeps “practising” her English.

She added that she was translating her answer about her recent struggles into French too, because she found the topics that it raised interesting.

Meanwhile, earlier this year Josephine admitted she’d been left feeling “abandoned” after a dearly beloved co-star departed the show.

When Tobi Bakare left Death in Paradise, she hadn’t been able to stop crying, adding that the actor had been “like a brother to me”.

“He’s just perfect. Seeing him leave, I was like, ‘What am I going to do?’ I felt abandoned, but I understood,” she revealed on Digital Spy.
