Piers Morgan, 56, has called for understanding for Prince Andrew’s daughters – Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie – and his former wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, following his out of court settlement with his accuser Virginia Giuffre. The Duke of York had been sued by Virginia over claims he sexually assaulted her on three occasions when she was 17.
Prince Andrew has repeatedly denied these claims.
According to The Telegraph, the settlement was as much as £12 million.
Now former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has issued a call for “empathy” for Prince Andrew’s family following the scandal.
He took to his Twitter platform, where he boasts 7.9 million followers, to defend the Duke’s daughters.
Piers retweeted a post by the aforementioned news publication, that read: “Immediate family and trusted advisers still support the Duke of York.”
He added: “You won’t meet nicer or more genuine people than Fergie, Beatrice and Eugenie.
“This must be an agonisingly difficult time for them, and they deserve our empathy not opprobrium by association.”
Other Twitter users sided with the broadcaster’s remarks as they replied to his tweet.
AngelinaBen agreed: “They are absolutely lovely souls.
“This is their Dad and Sarah’s ex husband and best friend.
“Of course they will support and love him.”
Bridget12912050 said: “The one to blame for Andrew’s mistakes is Andrew only. He was 40 years old.
“Nine of us are responsible for our family’s mistakes.” (Sic)
Mcgill1975 added: “These girls are in a difficult situation through no fault of their own and don’t deserve any back lash from anyone.” (sic)
Piers, who has been vocal on the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew and the Royal Family, demanded answers yesterday on how the royal paid his settlement bill.
Reports had previously emerged claiming that the Queen footed part of the bill.
He tweeted: “The British public is entitled to know who paid for Andrew’s settlement given some of it may have come indirectly from taxpayer money.
“Outrageous if it’s true the Queen’s had to contribute towards silencing his accuser. (sic)
“How dare he put his mother in that position?”
According to the Telegraph, it is believed Andrew will remain the Duke of York following settling his sexual abuse civil case.
