In his final video, DJ Casper said he was excited to play his hit Cha Cha Slide to 5,000 fans in Leeds, England, but sadly didn’t make it.
The songwriter, whose real name was Willie Perry Jr., died at the age of 58 on August 7 after being diagnosed with kidney and liver cancer in 2016.
His wife Kim confirmed his death to ABC 7 on Tuesday.
In the clip shared in April, the artist announced he would perform at Popworld Festival in Millennium Square, alongside Ronan Keating and Chesney Hawkes.
On Instagram, he said: “What’s up y’all, it’s your boy DJ Casper. I can’t wait to come across to the UK for the Popworld Festival in Leeds.

He added: “Just picture 5,000 of us doing the Cha Cha Slide at the same time. Get your tickets.”
The Chicago-born artist was best known for writing the popular 2000 song Cha Cha Slide and creating the song’s dance.
He revealed his cancer diagnosis in 2016 and regularly updated his fans.
The DJ had been in remission for several years, but the cancer returned, according to Chicago’s ABC 7.
In his last televised interview in May 2023, Perry told the network: “They diagnosed me in 2016 with two kinds of cancer, which is renal and Neuroendocrine, which is kidney and liver.”
He added: “They went in to try to do surgery, and they found out the kidney was connected to the main artery, so they decided not to do it and just treat it.”
The DJ added that he used to weigh 236 pounds, but had lost about 60 pounds.
He said: “If you know me, you know I’m not going to stop. I’m going to continue to go. I’m going to continue to go until I can’t go.”
