Doja Cat loses almost 250K Instagram followers in 48 hours after Threads rant

Grammy Awards: Doja Cat nearly misses award after going to loo

Doja Cat has seen herself at the centre of controversy over the past few days after issuing an impassioned rant against some of her fans.

The Woman hitmaker has since seen her Instagram following decrease by 237,758 followers, bringing the total down to 25.7 million.

Over the last 30 days, the rapper has lost nearly 299,970 followers, with Google searches for her name increasing by 82% worldwide following the posts.

In the now-deleted string of posts, Doja took issue with some of her fans who call themselves “Kittenz”, even though this name was chosen by the singer herself following a Twitter Poll she conducted in 2020.

The 27-year-old, real name Amala Zandile Dlamini, wrote over the weekend: “My fans don’t get to name themselves s***.”

Some supporters took inspiration from her feline look at this year’s MET Gala and called themselves ‘kittenz’.

However, she declared she finds the affectionate moniker ‘creepy’ and encouraged her fans to get off social media.

“If you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or f**king ‘kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house,” she added.

When one fan asked what they should call themselves instead, Doja responded: “Just delete the entire account and rethink everything, it’s never too late.”

The rapper also targeted another user with the handle @amalazandiledlamIni in tribute to Doja’s real name.

“You making my government name your sn is creepy as f**k,” she said.

Her outbursts at fans have sparked considerable backlash with many asking her to change her attitude towards her supporters.

On one of her latest Instagram posts, @_kagutaba replied: “Girl, there’s nothing wrong with your new looks or songs but that attitude towards your own fanbase… yikes.”

And @kianbrookes16 tweeted: “Doja Cat’s attitude is soooo weird rn. Like stop hating the people who supported you to get you where you are today. Strange behavior.”
