Dua Lipa ‘is hit with ANOTHER lawsuit over her 2020 single Levitating which accuses her of ripping off TWO 70s and 80s disco tracks’
Dua Lipa is allegedly being sued yet again over her 2020 chart-topping single, Levitating, after a complaint was filed to Manhattan federal court on Friday.
The singer, 26, is up against songwriters L. Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer, who are accusing her of ripping off their 1979 song Wiggle And Giggle All Night along with their 1980 track Don Diablo, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It follows reports that she was hit with a lawsuit by a band called Artikal Sound System who are seeking to claim the profits from her track because they believe she has taken inspiration from their 2017 reggae single Live Your Life.
Devastated: Dua Lipa ‘has been hit with ANOTHER lawsuit over her 2020 single Levitating which accuses her of ripping off TWO 70s and 80s disco tracks’
Lawyers for Russell and Sandy are said to have written in the new complaint: ‘Defendants have levitated away plaintiffs’ intellectual property. Plaintiffs bring suit so that defendants cannot wiggle out of their willful infringement.’
They highlighted interviews with the press where the Grammy winner ‘admitted that she deliberately emulated prior eras’ and ‘took inspiration’ from other tracks while producing a ‘retro’ sound.
Naming defendants Warner Music Group, as well as collaborator DaBaby, and other contributors, they continued: ‘In seeking nostalgic inspiration, defendants copied plaintiffs’ creation without attribution.’
According to the new lawsuit, the ‘signature melody’ which plays out before Dua sings the first verse copied a similar portion of the two tracks.

The accusers added how that section of the tune was ‘crucial’ because it went on to become a viral sensation on TikTok.
Attorneys claimed: ‘The signature melody is the most listened to and recognizable part of the infringing works and plays a crucial role in their popularity.
‘Because video creators frequently truncate the already brief snippets of sound on TikTok, the signature melody often comprises fifty percent or more of these viral videos.’
Oh no! Lawyers for Russell and Sandy have named defendants Warner Music Group, as well as collaborator DaBaby (pictured with Dua in March 2021)
It comes after documents obtained by TMZ, the band believe Dua and her team heard Live Your Life and came up with a carbon copy in Levitating.
Although they haven’t explained why they feel that is the case in the lawsuit, there are similarities in the sound of the two songs, particularly the choruses.
Artikal Sound System have also named Dua’s label Warner Records and others as defendants and are seeking any profits made on the song, plus damages.
Dua’s representatives have been contacted for comment by MailOnline regarding both lawsuits.
