Eamonn Holmes has insisted he will return to work next week and host This Morning despite his ongoing battle with chronic pain.

The 61 year old was admitted to hospital on 1 April after getting "pain like I've never experienced in my life" and doctors have been trying to figure out the root cause of the problem.

Clearly unable to sleep, the star took to his Twitter account to update his one million followers about his condition and assure them he would be returning to ITV studios next week to continue work as normal.

"Will have clearer picture of what's causing my pain tomorrow but just to say folks like so many of you I've lived with variations of Chronic pain for years," he wrote at 1:37am.

A few minutes later, Eamonn went on to write a second message thanking his followers for the kindness they've shown in the last week after he opened up about his chronic pain.

"In the meantime I am proud that my experience has given you a voice and I'm humbled by your various and different experiences & your kindness to me," he wrote.

Eamonn, who recently said he is "determined to beat" chronic pain, continued: "If between us we can get more solutions more understanding and more resources directed towards CP then that would be a result," followed by a thumbs up emoji.

Fans were quick to comment on his posts, with one person revealing they are always "told a different cause at nearly every appointment".

The TV presenter could relate as he replied: "Same here ….." alongside a weary face emoji.

Eamonn first spoke out about his condition earlier this week as he confessed his chronic pain had turned him into an insomniac.

Sitting up at 2:32am, he wrote: "In that Twilight Zone between Night time and Morning. Anyone else find these Hours the worst…. particularly if you suffer Chronic pain ?" [sic]

Many of his fans could empathise with what he's been going through as one person spoke about how playing hockey has "taken a toll" on their knees and they have damaged their coccyx, too.

Replying to several other messages, the TV star revealed various details about his condition as he wrote: "Like me Night is Worse …. why is that ?" [sic] with a thinking emoji face.

Explaining that he feels as though he's trapped in a cycle, he responded to another fan by writing: "No escape Emma is there ?" [sic] alongside an unamused face emoji.
