Ed Sheeran is the latest A-list star set to host CBeebies Bedtime Story segment.
The chart-topping singer and dad to 14-month-old Lyra, joins a long list of celebrities including Robbie Williams, Tom Hardy, Elton John and Dolly Parton who have already read stories on the popular children’s TV show.
Ed, 30, will read I Talk Like a River, written by Jordan Scott. The story is about having a stutter, something personal to Ed as he struggled with a stutter as a child.
He explains: “It made me feel different because I’d be in school and the teacher would ask a question and I’d put my hand in the air, but when it came to my turn to answer I couldn’t get the words out.”
The story airs on Bonfire Night (5 November) and Ed hopes it will help children struggling with speech impediments.
He continues “I used to worry that I’d never be able to speak without stuttering. But now I sing and I talk to people all the time.”
Ed and his wife Cherry, who he has known since secondary school, welcomed daughter Lyra Antarctica Seaborn in 2020.
Since then Ed has embraced parenthood and recently revealed he gifts frozen lasagnes to fellow new parents.
The couple announced Lyra’s arrival in 2020 with a cute Instagram post sharing a photo of tiny socks and a rainbow blanket.
In the caption, Ed shared his joy with fans, writing: "Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
"We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time."
However, Ed has recently revealed that baby Lyra doesn’t enjoy her dad’s music.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1 before his playing at the Big Weekend of Live Music 2021, he explained: "I definitely spent hours and hours in front of the mirror pretending to be essentially what I am now. Practice makes perfect innit. Now I'll sing [my new songs] to my daughter who's not my biggest fan. She just cries.
"No, I've got some she likes. She really likes Shape Of You, the marimba sound is good but she doesn't like anything loud or anything belty."
Ed recently announced a UK and Europe tour which begins in 2022 and includes 27 shows.
Cherry and Lyra are joining Ed for the gigs, which include three huge concerts and London’s Wembley Stadium next summer.
