Eddie Izzard is weighing in on the controversy regarding JK Rowling‘s comments about the trans community.
If you missed it, the 58-year-old English comic recently came out as gender fluid while announcing that she prefers using she/her pronouns.
Last year, the 55-year-old Harry Potter author came under fire when she made comments about gender, that were widely viewed as transphobic.
In a new interview, Eddie defended JK, while also saying that she doesn’t think the author is transphobic.
“I don’t think J.K. Rowling is transphobic,” Eddie shared with The Telegraph. “I think we need to look at the things she has written about in her blog. Women have been through such hell over history. Trans people have been invisible, too.”
Eddie continued: “I hate the idea we are fighting between ourselves, but it’s not going to be sorted with the wave of a wand. I don’t have all the answers. If people disagree with me, fine, but why are we going through hell on this?”
Harry Potter stars, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, all shared statements denouncing JK‘s comments, while showing their support for the trans community.
However, this one Harry Potter actor did defend JK Rowling amid the controversy.
