Emily Andre admits fans asked husband Peter for selfies whilst she was in labour

Emily Andrea has looked back on the time her husband Peter Andre was asked for pictures from his fans while she was heading to the delivery suite in hospital to give birth.

Writing in her weekly OK! column, the mum of two and NHS doctor, 32, added that it was the first time she had witnessed her other half Peter, 42, to refuse to take a selfie.

Elsewhere in her column, Emily discusses why blood transfusions are “safe” despite sounding distressing and why she will be seeing Peter at home more often from now on. Sign up – for free! – to see what she has to say.

Millie can’t wait to see her dad perform

I’m already planning when to take Millie to see Pete in Grease The Musical in the West End. Millie absolutely loves watching him perform and can’t wait, so I will definitely be taking her.

Theo watched Pete during the tour last year, but the West End show may be a little late for him, so we will have to see closer to the time whether or not I’ll be able to take him.

I might take him to a matinee. It will be nice having Pete home every night after the show.

When he was on tour, sometimes he was gone for a week or two at a time, so it’s good he’ll be nearby in London and will be able to see the kids before they go to school.

Transfusions aren’t uncommon

Former EastEnders actor Sid Owen and his fiancée Victoria Shores introduced their two-week-old daughter Skye on Good Morning Britain.

She was born four weeks early by C-section and Victoria had to have a blood transfusion. A transfusion can sound distressing, but it is safe and will only be done if necessary.

If you are very anaemic before giving birth you may be advised to have a transfusion, or if you lose a lot of blood in labour.

Luckily, I didn’t need a transfusion with either of my deliveries, but it isn’t uncommon. If you want to know more, or are worried, discuss it with your midwife.

In an emergency situation these conversations are tricky, so it’s worthwhile discussing in advance.

I get recognised at work but people are always friendly

Paediatrician Dr Ranj Singh was recently asked whether fans ever ask for a picture with him while he’s working for the NHS.

And the TV doctor revealed: “Well, even worse than that – trying to take a photo of their child on a life-support machine with me. That’s really not appropriate. I don’t think this is the right moment to be doing that sort of thing.”

I think sometimes, when people are in a situation where they’ve been taken by surprise, they can react in a way that is unexpected.

I remember when I was in labour, Pete was in his scrubs, we were heading to the delivery suite, and people were asking him for photos.

He was saying: “No, my wife is in labour, I’m sorry I can’t right now.”

In the almost 10 years we’ve been together, it’s the one time I’ve heard him say no to having a picture taken!

I occasionally get recognised at work, but people are always friendly and very respectful that I am working.

Thankfully, unlike Dr Ranj’s experience, no one has ever been inappropriate or asked for a picture in an awkward way.

I always feel lucky that everyone is so kind and friendly towards me. I recently went to visit my brother, Tom, who is also a doctor, in Bristol.

He runs an aesthetics clinic with his friend, so I went to see him there and grab a quick coffee. He works hard, so I don’t get to see him a lot. But when I do get a chance I always make sure I go and visit him.

As usual, I managed to see him for about half an hour before he was back to seeing clients.

I am really proud of how he set up a business in the middle of Covid, while also working for the NHS at the height of the pandemic. It’s always so lovely to see him.
