Adam Thomas has been confirmed as the eighth celebrity contestant taking part in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.
The multi-award-winning entertainment show, produced by BBC Studios, will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for its new series this autumn, once again bringing glitter, glamour and glorious dancing to homes across the nation.
After much speculation, former soap star Adam, 34, was finally revealed as the latest star set for the dancefloor. He said: "I am so excited to be joining the cast of this years' Strictly Come Dancing.
"I've been such a big fan of the show for years, I can't believe I'm actually doing it! I can't dance to save my life but I'm buzzing to learn and have a good laugh with my pro. Get me on that dance floor…I can't wait!"
The news was revealed this morning (Tuesday, 8 August) on The Hits Radio Breakfast Show with Fleur East, James & Matt.
Adam is best known for playing Adam Barton in ITV's long-running and ever popular soap Emmerdale, in which he won a TV Choice award for Best Soap Newcomer. More recently, he is known for reprising his role as Donte Charles in BBC One's Waterloo Road after being an original cast member in the original series.
He's no stranger to celebrity based reality shows, after putting in an appearance on ITV's I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2016, and went on to co-host the spin-off–I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp.
Ahead of the confirmation he was set to don sequins and sparkles while learning iconic dance moves in the next few weeks, there were rumours he'd signed up for the show.
Adam jokingly expressed his openness to experiencing the notorious "Strictly curse," a theory that suggests participants in the show often end up splitting up with their partners.
Speaking previously about the rumours he'd join the popular dancing show, he playfully said: "Bring it all on. I love a bit of glitz and glam. I just want to experience the Strictly curse."
The star is part of a famous trio of siblings, with his twin brother Scott Thomas having tasted villa life on Love Island, and his older brother Ryan Thomas, 39, known for his long-running role as Jason on Coronation Street, and a number of other projects – including winning Celebrity Big Brother in 2018.
Even Adam's son Teddy has had a taste of stardom, playing Adam's on-screen son in Waterloo Road, while his brother Ryan Thomas' daughter, Scarlett, portrays Adam's daughter in the series.
