Emmy Award nominations 2022! Succession leads the pack with 25 nods while Pam & Tommy’s raunchy sex tape series, Squid Game and Ted Lasso also score big ahead of TV’s highest honors

  • FX series Pam & Tommy – which centered around the real-life story of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s honeymoon sex tape being stolen and leaked to the public – swept the Limited Series categories 
  • Lily James earned the Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie nod for her portrayal of blonde bombshell Anderson while her co-star Sebastian Stan earned the Lead Actor nod for his portrayal of Motley Crue drummer Lee 
  • The list of nominees were announced by actors JB Smoove and Melissa Fumero as well as Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma 
  • The 2022 Emmy Awards will air live at 8pm EST/5pm PST on Monday, September 12 on NBC in addition to being streamed live on Peacock 

Nominations were announced for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on Tuesday morning with Succession leading the way with a whopping 25 nods while Pam & Tommy’s raunchy sex tape series, Squid Game, and Ted Lasso also being heavily recognized.

Succession will face heavy competition in the highly coveted Drama Series category including Squid Game, Euphoria, Better Call Saul, Ozark, Severance, Stranger Things, and Yellowjackets.

The series created by Jesse Armstrong is centered around the  Roy family who is known for controlling the biggest media and entertainment company in the world but their world changes when their father steps down from the company.

Sarah Snook and J. Smith-Cameron also received nods in the Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category as they are up against Patricia Arquette (Severance), Julia Garner (Ozark), Jung Ho-yeon (Squid Game), Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets), Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul), and Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria).

The list of nominees were announced by actors JB Smoove and Melissa Fumero as well as Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma.

Smoove, 56, is a writer and actor best known for his work on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. He is also an Emmy winner as he earned Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for his work in Mapleworth Murders last year.

Fumero, 39, starred on hit comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine which had its finale in September 2021 after eight seasons. Both hosts are set to appear in Netflix’s upcoming comedy series Blockbuster alongside Randall Park.

No doubt this will be a very interesting year for the nominees as it is the first under a major realignment of the Primetime and Daytime Emmy Awards, where the two ceremonies’ scopes will now revolve more around factors such as the themes, format, and style characteristics, instead of strictly dayparts which is a response to the growth of streaming television.

Television’s biggest night will honor American prime time television programming from June 1, 2021, until May 31, 2022, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS).

Prior to the televised ceremony, the  Creative Arts Emmys will take place over two nights, on Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4 with an edited version later airing on FXX on Saturday, September 10.
